Interesting Facts About Amber Pendants......
It is commonly believed that amber is tree sap, but this is incorrect. Amber is instead fossilized resin, formed over millions of years. It can contain insects or small vertebrates, as it starts out soft and sticky, which is known as copal.
This fascinating stone can come in a variety of different colours from the yellowy orange it is most know for, through to much paler yellow, brown and almost black. Rarer colours include red, green and even blue, which is exceptionally hard to come by and therefore all the more valuable.
To the touch, amber is surprisingly warm and can generate static electricity when rubbed and was burnt as an aromatic scent in the Middle Ages. Much of the amber used is found in the sea and mines located in the Baltic.
