At a recent Academy Awards ceremony Beyonce was asked to perform a song from the Phantom of the Opera. Many of the commentators criticised her for wearing a diamond necklace that looked like a chandelier with a separate drop from the centre which almost reached her navel. They described it as “the largest chandelier necklace she could find to draw attention to herself”. This necklace actually did not belong to Beyonce, but had been specially designed for the film of Phantom and had been worn by actress Minnie Driver who was one of its stars. The main thing to remember about diamond chandelier necklaces is that no matter how big or small they are you will certainly be noticed.
Anyone who has seen the stage play or film of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Phantom of the Opera will be aware that a chandelier plays a large part in the action. The same is true of an early episode of the classic sitcom Only Fools and Horses starring David Jason and Nicholas Lyndhurst. In an episode called A Touch of Glass Del Boy and Rodney spectacularly fail to clean an enormous chandelier causing it to crash to the floor. This episode is attributed to starting the rise in ratings which eventually led it to become the classic and popular comedy series it still is today.
Chandelier diamond necklaces follow the fashion trends of lighting chandeliers.
They were first made on the Venetian island of Murano in the 1700s, and initially were only found in the homes of the fabulously rich with enormous crystal concoctions sparkling and shimmering in ballrooms and drawing rooms across Europe and America. The chandelier can be described as a sculptural presence which offers enormous stimulation and statement of style. They are often the first thing you notice when entering a room, and the same can also be said of a diamond chandelier necklace, especially when it is worn by a beautiful woman.
