The huggy earring design is a very easy and complementary style to wear.  Because the earring wraps around the ear from the front to the back (appearing to hug it and hence the name!) they have a relatively snug fit and suit wearers with shorter necks who find diamond hoop and chandelier earrings unflattering and difficult to wear.  They are also a classic and timeless piece of jewellery which do not date and can be worn by women of all ages.

There are two types of huggy earrings: partial huggy earrings extend to the midpoint or edge of the front of the ear and the back just comprises a clasp or clip.  The full diamond huggy wraps right around the ear and is the more expensive option. If the earrings are completely covered with diamonds then a channel setting is the most usual with the diamonds smoothly sitting in the metal mount.  A cheaper option might be for the earrings to be platinum or gold metal studded with diamonds.

Just the word “huggy” conjures up warm images.  It will bring back memories to some of “hug me tight” cardigans knitted by their mothers during the 1950s when the garment was wrapped around you and tied in a bow at the back.  Or it might remind you of the original television series of Starsky & Hutch where Huggy Bear was a friend and informant of the original twosome played by David Soul and Paul Michael Glaser.  He ran the Pitts Bar, dressed in 70s gear, spoke slowly and never raised his voice.  Recently they have regained their popularity and been revived in a film starring Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson in the title roles and Snoop Dogg being cast as “Huggy”.  He can often be seen wearing diamonds earrings during the action, but not the type with which his name is synonymous.
