The diamond slipper pendant pays tribute to the tale of Cinderella. The story originates as far back as the 1st century BC, when Greek myth tells of a young girl called Rhodopis who is left to wash clothes in a stream while her fellow servants go to a function held by the Pharaoh. While there, an eagle swoops down and takes one of her rose-gilded sandals and disappears with it, only to subsequently drop it at the feet of the Pharaoh. He searches high and low for the one who will fit the sandal, until eventually he find Rhodopis. They instantly fall in love and marry.
The tale most of us know today is a reworking by Charles Perrault in 1697, who added elements such as the fairy-godmother, the pumpkin carriage and the most important element...the glass slipper.
