All our Emeralds are from Colombia and are all natural gemstones. Natural gemstones all have inclusions in them as they are natural, the more expensive an Emerald is the less inclusions it will have in it.
Some facts about Emeralds for you:
Emerald is the birthstone for may and is made up primarily of the mineral beryl, although the green colour it is most commonly known for comes from its' chromium content. They are mined predominantly in Colombia, Russia, South Africa, Zimbabwe, India, Afghanistan and Pakistan. Despite being generally considered a green gemstone, emeralds do come in other colours but are known under different names such as aquamarine.
Most emeralds undergo some kind of treatment in order to improve their appearance. Resins are used to fill in the cracks and the emeralds are coated in oil to prevent further drying out. This is why maintaining emeralds must be done extremely carefully and should not include the use of ultra-sonic cleaning devices.
When it comes to choosing an emerald, the single most important fact is the colour and those with the deepest, most vibrant greens can frequently be more expensive then their equivalent diamond. The best are usually the Columbian emeralds.
The cut is also important because if it is done too shallow then the emerald loses a lot of its brilliance and depth, cut too deep and not enough light will be let through to allow the colour of the emerald to really show.
