More interesting facts and information about blue topaz rings.....

Blue topaz is the birthstone for December. It is a silicate mineral of aluminium and fluorine. On the Mohs scale, the blue topaz rates a hardness factor of 8, which ranks it below diamond but above tanzanite.

Pure topaz is actually transparent and without colour but is tinted by impurities, usually yellows, browns, greens, pinks and reds. It is rarely blue by nature, but instead becomes this colour through heat and irradiation treatment.

They are believed to protect against enemies and dispel anger and are found within the foundations of the twelve gates to the Holy City of the New Jerusalem. Topaz comes from the Greek work "topazos" meaning "green gemstone" and the stones have been known about for at least 2000 years.

The biggest stones are mined from Siberia and Brazil. One of the most magnificent examples is found in the Portuguese crown, the Braganza.
