Within Buddhism, coral is so revered that it is named as one of the seven treasures. It comes in several different colours, but those most highly treasured are the blacks, pinks and reds. As a soft, porous stone, with a rating for hardness of only 3.5 on the Mohs scale, great care should be taken when looking after coral. It should be stored in a safe place where it will not be easily scratched by other items and wiped delicately with a soft, moist cloth.
