Turquoise is the birthstone for December and zodiac sign of Sagittarius. It has also come to represent the 5th and 11th wedding anniversaries. The word turquoise is thought to have originated from the 16th century French word "turquois" meaning Turkish. Although the stone never came from Turkey, turquoise was traded at Turkish markets which led merchants to believe that was its' origin.
