Interesting Facts About Diamond Bangles....

Bangles are versatile pieces of jewellery. Their different designs and density offer the wearer the perfect opportunity to mix and match by putting as many as they want on their wrist or upper arm. When buying a bangle as a present it is important to give thought to the lifestyle of the person. For example, if they work with their hands it is not a good idea to purchase something which is very chunky and  which might catch if they were to wear it as an item of daywear. Bangles also come in varying sizes so try and get some idea of their hand width and thickness of their wrist.

A charming Victorian tradition pertaining to bangles has recently been reintroduced and involves the spelling out of different words with gemstones. For example a bangle with Lapis, Opal, Vermeil (a type of garnet) and Emeralds would spell LOVE.

Art Nouveau designs are still in evidence today, with the original styles of entwined chameleons and serpents set with diamonds in their eyes still proving popular. Other creatures which featured on bangles during this figural period were still very much associated with nature and includee dragonflies, butterflies, bees and even bats.

During the 1900s, the design of the bangle evolved with the fashion of sleeveless dresses for women from 1910 to 1940 seeing the introduction of flexible jewellery studded with gemstones or diamonds worn on the upper arm.  During the ´50s and ´60s the norm for day time wear was a gold bangle with a twisted vine or serpent theme, and the trend during the 1960s and ´70s was for rigid bangles set with random diamond placements. However from the 1980s onwards the “anything goes” attitudes has opened up endless design possibilities ranging from  simple plain bangles to diamond encrusted cuffs. They now make more of a statement about an individual than as part of a trend.
